How It Was

Growing up in Northern California in the 1950’s and 1960’s was magical. Life was simple there and then.

We had one telephone. It was a black rotary phone that sat on a desk in the dining room. We had no choice but to have our conversations within listening distance of the rest of the family.

We didn’t have computers or televisions in our bedrooms. Our entertainment was books, magazines, radios or record players. If we were lucky enough to get a portable transistor radio, we would be very excited. We could take our music anywhere.

Times have changed.

It makes you wonder what the outcome would be if today’s teens suddenly ended up in that 50’/60’s world.

Honestly, I think after the initial shock they would see the benefits of it all.

Having to share time and space isn’t a bad thing.

I’m pretty much a loner. I value my alone time. But I also enjoy time with my husband, my family and my gal pals.

Women need other women. I have been blessed with a group of forever friends.

Today my good friend Carolan is arriving from California. So far, she has been a faithful annual visitor. I appreciate her effort to see me even though I was the one that moved away.

I’m still not moving very well on the broken ankle, but she understands and has said she’s looking forward to helping me. I appreciate her.

Life will be good today.
