Life as I see it… Where we need to be

There was a time in the 1990s  that I visited the Sacred Heart Monastery in Richardson, ND.

For several weeks, I stayed a couple of nights each week with the Sisters, while gathering information for a magazine article I was writing. I found them to be strong, courageous, and wise women.

It was kind of a troubling time in my life then. The Monastery offered a place of peace and comfort.

The Sisters had begun raising llamas, and each night as I lay in bed, I could hear the gentle hum they made communicating with one another. It was like a peaceful lullaby.

I had innumerable talks with the Sisters. I could hear their beautiful voices singing each morning as I walked by the chapel.

Fast forward to today. I’m once again staying at the monastery.

The nuns have relocated. Our friend Tim now owns the building. Tim has graciously allowed daughter Velvet and I to stay here for a couple of days and do a marathon Christmas cookie baking session in the big commercial kitchen.

Tim is a gentle, giving spirit. We appreciate his friendship and his kindness.

Time here in this blessed place is just what I needed this Christmas season. It’s a win win for me. Not only do I get time with Velvet, but the baking will be done. The bonus is that I get to wrap myself in the peace of this place and remember a time most dear. What a wonderful place to reflect on why we celebrate Christmas. It’s about the boy child in a manager.

God bless our friend Tim and all that he does for others.

Before coming here yesterday, I learned of the passing of Cheryl McCaskey. My heart hurts at the loss of this sweet friend and adopted family member. So many people loved her. Blessings to her family.

Although sad, I know the suffering is past.

Life is good today.
