We are saddened to announce the passing of Norman Gaynor Larsen on March 21, 2023 in Sacramento, CA.
Norman was born on October 24, 1934 in Castana, IA to Alvin and Alice Larsen. He graduated from Castana High School in 1953 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1957, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic. Norman was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal and proudly served four years.
On August 13, 1960, Norman married Marie Anna Johansen at Bethania Lutheran Church in Solvang, CA. His boundless tenacity and determination led him to establish several concrete block plants throughout California and Montana before ultimately retiring in Colusa, CA.
His hard-working nature, kind heart, and untiring wit continue to inspire all who knew him.
Norman is survived by his daughters, Tonja Sarette and Debra Hinely (John K.); his grandchildren, Nicholas Sarette (Joy), John C. Hinely (Lindsay), Alex Hinely, and Savannah Sheley; his great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Adelyn, Garrett, Everett, and John W.; and his brothers, Arne and Milo Larsen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Anna Larsen; his parents, Alvin and Alice Larsen; and his brothers, Alan and Eric Larsen.
A memorial service will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA. ■
