“Don’t cry for me, I’ll see you all someday” He looks up and says, “I can see God’s face”
The biggest fan of Willie Mays, Gary Roper passed away unexpectedly March 16, 2023.
Gary was born to Bob and Kay Roper on April 15, 1952, in El Sobrante, CA. Gary graduated from Williams High School in 1970 where he excelled in all sports. He attended Chico State University where he earned a degree in Physical Education. Gary loved hunting and fishing and especially loved to hunt deer in Walker Ridge. Even more than snagging a 12 point buck, Gary was an avid San Francisco Giants fan. Attending games with friends and family became a cherished pastime. Gary continued his involvement in sports by faithfully attending his grandchildren’s sport events where he could always be found cheering them on. Gary was inducted into the Colusa County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012 for the 1970 Williams basketball team. He went on to serve on the Hall of Fame committee.
Gary is survived by his children Heath Roper and Megan Garcia of Colusa, brother David Roper of Williams, sister Lynda (Mike) Marucheau of Roseville, former spouse Deborah Roper (Charlie), daughter-in-law Kim Roper (Charlie), grandchildren Cade and Reese, nieces Haley and Sierra, and close friend Jenny (Eric) Lay and family. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Kay Roper.
A celebration of life will be held on April 15, at 1 PM at the Colusa County Golf Course. Please join us as we honor Gary in wearing Giants gear or orange and black for his beloved Giants. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Colusa Redhawk Athletic Foundation. ■
