WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – The Williams City Council on Feb. 18 adopted a proclamation honoring U.S. Rep. Doug
LaMalfa, who died in office on Jan. 6, recognizing his decades of advocacy for rural Northern California and his
service to agricultural producers, small businesses and working families.
Councilman Don Parsons read the proclamation aloud, emphasizing LaMalfa’s long record of championing the
needs of small towns.
“Congressman Douglas Malfa faithfully served the people of Northern California with integrity, dedication and a
deep commitment to the values of rural and small-town communities,” Parsons read.
The proclamation highlighted LaMalfa’s work on water rights, wildfire recovery, infrastructure improvements, forest
management and economic development.
“He worked diligently to ensure that voices of small and rural communities were heard at the federal level,
recognizing the unique challenges, they face and championed policies that support local livelihoods and strengthen
regional resilience,” Parsons continued.
The council voted unanimously to approve the proclamation, which will be signed by all members.
He added that LaMalfa consistently delivered for Williams, pointing to the $1 million in federal funding to advance
the E Street project as an example of the congressman’s support for the community.
LaMalfa, 65, represented California’s 1st Congressional District and was widely known in the region for his
advocacy on behalf of farmers, ranchers, veterans, and rural communities. The proclamation adopted Feb. 18 honors
his legacy of service and leadership, officials said.
