Applications Open for Colusa City Commissions

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – The City of Colusa is seeking applicants to fill multiple vacancies across three city commissions, opening the door for new appointments while allowing current members to seek reappointment through a competitive process.

The openings include two seats on the Planning Commission, three seats on the Heritage Preservation Commission and three seats on the Parks, Recreation and Tree Commission. All appointments are made by the City Council and carry four year terms.

The Planning Commission meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. The current vacancies stem from term expirations for John Martin and Amy Schmidt. Applicants must live within the City of Colusa at the time of appointment and throughout their term and may not be officers or employees of the city. Up to two seats may be filled by Colusa County residents who live within two miles of city boundaries.

The Heritage Preservation Commission meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. Terms are expiring for Gladys Garcia, Jon Wrysinski and Stacy Zwald-Costello. Eligibility includes city residents or county residents living within two miles of city limits. Applicants may not hold city employment.

The Parks, Recreation and Tree Commission meets quarterly on the second Tuesday of January, April, July and October at 6 p.m. Vacancies follow the term expirations of Madison Martin, Patty Hickel and Thomas Roach. Residency rules mirror those of the Heritage Preservation Commission.

City Clerk Shelly Kittle said current commissioners may reapply but are not guaranteed reappointment.

“Incumbents have the opportunity to reapply and are subject to the same appointment process as incoming applicants,” she said.

Applications are due March 10. The City Council is scheduled to consider appointments during its March 17 regular meeting.
