SACRAMENTO, CA (MPG) – Residents in Colusa, Sutter and Yuba counties can file their taxes for free through a regional partnership between Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way and United Way California Capital Region.
United Way’s Free Tax Prep program runs through April 15 and is available to households that earned less than $68,000 in 2025. Trained volunteers assist filers in claiming available state and federal credits, including the Earned Income Tax Credit and CalEITC.
The program offers both virtual and in person assistance in multiple languages at locations throughout the region. United Way officials said participants save an average of $200 in tax preparation fees.
“For many working families, every dollar matters,” said Tara Art, executive director of Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way. “This program helps people keep more of what they earn and avoid costly preparation fees while accessing critical tax credits.”
United Way encourages residents to file as early as possible to receive refunds and credits sooner.
Residents in Colusa, Sutter and Yuba counties can call 844-546-1464 for assistance or visit www.YourFreeTaxPrep.org.
Since 2020, the Free Tax Prep program has helped more than 28,000 people across the region file their taxes at no cost, resulting in nearly $40 million in federal refunds, according to United Way.
The program also relies on volunteer tax preparers. United Way officials said additional volunteers are needed to support online and in person services during the tax season.
“At United Way, we believe every family deserves financial stability,” said Dawnté Early, president and CEO of United Way California Capital Region. “This program helps remove barriers so families can build a stronger foundation for the future.”
Yuba-Sutter-Colusa United Way focuses on improving access to education, health and financial stability throughout the region.
