COLUSA, CA (MPG) – The Colusa County Board of Supervisors adopted a proclamation Jan. 27 recognizing the Colusa Indian Community Council as the recipient of the county’s first Community Impact Award.

The award, selected by the board chair, will be presented annually to an organization that demonstrates sustained contributions to Colusa County. Supervisor Daurice Kalfsbeek-Smith said the 2025 award recognizes the Colusa Indian Community Council for its role in economic development, workforce stability, healthcare access and community support.

“This is a long time coming and I really, really appreciate the Colusa Indian Community Council for their vision in the past and the present,” Kalfsbeek-Smith said. “They have really been a driver in our community for economic growth and opportunity, and this is long overdue.”

Kalfsbeek-Smith noted that the Colusa Indian Community Council and its enterprises employ more than 550 people across 12 tribal entities, making the Tribe one of the county’s largest employers. She also cited the Tribe’s operation of community-serving enterprises, including Colusa Indian Health Clinics, which provide medical, dental, pediatric, physical therapy, mental health, nutrition and optometry services.

According to the proclamation, the Tribe has contributed more than $500,000 to local organizations, schools and community programs over the past two years. Additional enterprises include Colusa Casino Resort, Outdoor Adventures, Hand in Hand Early Learning Center, Wintun Mini Mart and Fuel Station, agricultural operations and Colusa Indian Energy.

In adopting the proclamation, the board formally acknowledged the Tribe as a major economic partner and expressed its intent to continue recognizing organizations that make a significant impact in the county.
