GRIMES, Calif. (MPG) — Firefighters and volunteers from the Grand Island Fire Department rang in the new year with their annual New Year’s Day breakfast on Jan. 1, welcoming a strong crowd despite cold temperatures and intermittent wet weather.
Community members gathered at the Grand Island Station in Grimes for the morning event, which featured pancakes, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, bacon, sausage, eggs, fruit and breakfast burritos, along with coffee and juice.
The breakfast was offered at no cost, with donations encouraged. Proceeds support local scholarships and community service projects. In past years, funds raised through the event have benefited Grand Island Elementary School, the Grimes Library, after-school programs and local FFA students.
