Dear Editor,
This is an open letter to the Board of Supervisors to encourage them to view all of the new evidence associated with the proposed solar field energy project in the western part of the county. I also urge each one to speak with their constituents for feedback on both sides of the issue. I believe the people deserve to know that all pertinent information, both positive and negative, will be used and considered with an open mind.
I understand that there is a vocal minority opposed to this project, and they have every right to state their objections. But those objections should also emphasize clear facts and substantive evidence as to why such a project should not go forward and not based only on opinions. In speaking with those who favor this endeavor, I hear several very positive aspects which should not be overlooked by the Board members when making such an important decision that impacts all communities.
The 14 January hearing on this issue is scheduled for 9 am in the Board chambers in Colusa and those on both sides of the issue should attend and encourage Board members to be objective and use all available information to make their collective decision.
I must admit that there is much more to gain in support of this unique project, especially in light of the new battery storage technology that was missing from the first proposal. Plus, $10 million will be dedicated to public services over the life of the project, which could amount to about $400,000 per year. But whatever decision is made, each Board member should provide the public with the evidence and reasons behind their decision, either positive or negative.
The citizens of Colusa County deserve a Board that weighs the evidence over opinion, and that all of the information used in making the final determination is of the best quality and based upon scientific data. We deserve nothing less.
Sincerely,
Edward B. Davis
