Colusa Tennis Avenges Losses

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – For the RedHawk boys’ tennis team the adage “there’s no place like home” rang true last week as it avenged road losses it suffered to Live Oak and Quincy earlier in the season.

Colusa’s Oziel Morales won two singles and two doubles matches for the RedHawks last week.

In its most emotional win, Colusa began last week by downing Live Oak 7-2, after winning five of the six singles and two of the three doubles matches.

No. 1 Jesse Medina got things started with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 win, while No. 2 Arthur Andreotti (6-1, 7-5), No. 4 Oziel Morales (6-3, 7-5), No. 5 Alberto Leos (6-1, 2-6, 10-8) and No. 6 Brayden Newgard (6-2, 7-6) all followed suit.

On the doubles court, the No. 2 duo of Morales and Elias Sierra took care of business 8-3, as did No. 3 Leos and Newgard, who triumphed 8-4.

“It was a great win for us given what happened the first time around when we lost 2-7,” said Coach Tina Lyons.  “I really couldn’t be any prouder of them.”

The RedHawks then carried their momentum into their match against Quincy where they took down the Trojans by a 7-2 score as well.

Sierra (6-0, 6-1) posted a straight set win in the No. 3 spot, as did Morales (6-1, 7-5), while Leos (7-6, 3-6, 10-3) outlasted his opponent and Newgard (7-6, 6-4) also emerged victorious.

Colusa swept the doubles matches with Medina and Andreotti winning out 8-4, Sierra and Morales earning the 8-3 victory and Leos and Newgard putting away the competition 8-4.

A make-up match with Paradise was also scheduled last week, but the Bobcats did not have enough players and had to forfeit.

Monday marked the end of the regular season for the RedHawks, who hosted Paradise Adventist Academy in a non-conference tune-up prior to the league finals.
