Yellowjacket Golfers Climbing the Leaderboard

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Competing against seven other Sacramento Valley League teams at a regular season meet on Apr. 10 at the Colusa Golf & Country Club, Williams served notice that they are on the rise, having recently moved into second place behind Durham in the standings.

“Durham is in first and they will be tough to beat,” said ‘Jacket coach Darren Robinson. “But with a second-place finish today, we moved into second overall, just ahead of East Nicolaus.”

Such results are indeed impressive given that sport has only recently caught on in Williams.

Leading the way for the Yellowjackets in Colusa was Matthew Cervantes, who carded a 90 and had six pars in his round.

Five strokes behind Cervantes was teammate Jorge Saavedra with a 95.

Also turning in a solid effort was Pierce’s Calvin Baird, who shot a 91 for the day.

SVL play continued this week with a match on Tuesday at the Butte Creek Country Club in Chico and another on Thursday at the Table Mountain course in Oroville.
