Maxwell Baseball Takes Down County Rivals

MAXWELL, CA (MPG) – In three wins last week against their county rivals Williams and Princeton, the Panthers exploded offensively pounding out 35 hits and scoring 48 runs to improve their record to 14-4 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-Valley League.

Maxwell’s Tanner Vierra hits a single to left in the Panthers’ win over Williams on Apr. 9.

Hosting Williams at home on Apr. 9, Maxwell got five strong innings on the mound from freshman Vincent Orozco as they cruised to a 12-2 victory in an MVL game.

Orozco limited the Yellowjackets to just two hits while he struck out eight batters.

At the plate, Massey Baker went 2 for 2 with a double, Edgar Izquierdo also finished 2 for 2 and Brody Jones doubled to lead the Panthers at the plate.

For Williams, Leo Hernandez doubled to center and Jose Valdez singled to account for the only hits.

Coming off the decisive win over the ‘Jackets, Maxwell then hit the road where they shutout Princeton 14-0 in a non-conference affair on Apr. 11.

Baker had another nice outing, going 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI, then went four innings on the hill where he fanned nine and yielded just a single hit.

Mack Kuska drove in two runs as part of his 2 for 2 day, while Levi Velazquez doubled then closed out the fifth inning on the mound.

Williams’s Leo Hernandez rounds first base and heads into second with a double in the Yellowjackets game in Maxwell on Apr. 9.

Completing the season series with the Yellowjackets in Williams on Apr. 12, Velazquez had himself a day at the plate going 3 for 4 with six RBI in the 22-2 win.

Jones finished 2 for 3 as did Yahir Alcaraz, while Colt Montgomery and Alex Krug each doubled twice.

Alcaraz got the nod on the bump striking out eight over three innings, then gave way to Melvin Martinez, who struck out the side in his one inning of work before Velazquez closed out the game.

Maxwell hosted non-conference opponent Etna in a twin bill on Tuesday in its only games this week.
