COLUSA COUNTY, CA – Colusa junior Danica Chavez heads the list of local girls basketball players receiving postseason honors after the Sacramento Valley League’s Most Valuable Player also received an All-Northern Section nod having been named to the second team.
As the driving force behind the RedHawks’ SVL championship run, Chavez averaged 18.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game as she topped the 1,000-point mark for her career this season.
Over the past three years Chavez has tallied 1,283 points and is closing in on Colusa’s all-time leading scoring record of 1,624, which was set by Katie Kittle between 2006-2008.
Joining Chavez on the All-SVL squad was a trio of juniors including Olivia Huskey, Alena

Sanchez and Carlie Sanchez.
Huskey averaged 6.9 points per game and shot nearly 40 percent from beyond on the arc, while the Sanchez twins did a little bit of everything and added valuable court sense to the RedHawk lineup.
Also receiving a spot on the SVL All-League team was Pierce senior Letzy Ambriz, who averaged 7.7 points and 2.6 rebounds in her final season for the fourth place Bears.
In the Mid-Valley League, fourth place Maxwell and sixth place Williams had one selection apiece.
Emma Hendrix represented the Panthers and deservedly so given that the senior posted a double-double in 13 of the 17 games she played this season, averaging 15.0 points and 12.9 rebounds per contest.

Sophomore Lupita Zuniga was the Yellowjackets’ All-MVL pick, after averaging 6.1 points and 5.8 blocks per game.
Overall, Zuniga’s 92 blocks were good for second in the Northern Section.
Perhaps the greatest surprise this year however, was the resurgence of the Princeton Eagles, who finished second in the Pioneer League and as a result saw junior Mackenzie Wills and sophomore Guadalupe Espinoza named to the All-PL squad.
Wills was Princeton’s leader in both points and rebounds averaging 8.5 and 7.8 respectively, while Espinoza finished the season averaging 4.0 points per contest.
