Prep Golfers Convene for 1st Annual Brady Myers Tourney

Colusa’s Jurnee Brewer tees off at the 1st Annual Brady Myers Tournament at the Colusa Golf & Country Club on Mar. 27.

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Thirty-three golfers from eight different schools converged on the Colusa Golf and Country Club last Wednesday for the 1st Annual Brady Myers Tournament.

Colusa’s Carlie Sanchez chips the ball onto the green at the 1st Annual Brady Myers Tournament on Mar. 27.

It was Colusa coach Vince Roady, a friend of Myers, who thought the tournament would be a fitting tribute to the man who was a standout athlete at CHS and scholarship golfer at Fresno State and unexpectedly passed away in 2023.

“Brady was a superb athlete in many sports back when he attended Colusa High in the late 1970’s, but golf was his game. He loved to play and competed at a very high level,” said Roady. “When he got into the insurance business, he was a big booster of high school and youth athletics in Colusa as well.  I was at his memorial service this past summer and I ran the idea of a high school golf tournament by the family, and they were very helpful and encouraging in making this happen. The tournament honors Brady’s legacy both as an outstanding golfer and as a great supporter of youth athletics in our community.”

Pierce’s Jordan McPeek hits off the tee at the 1st Annual Brady Myers Tournament on Mar. 27.

Gusting winds and cool temperatures did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the golfers from Anderson, Colusa, Gridley, Marysville, Orland, Oroville, Pierce and Willows who participated in the stroke-play competition.

Oroville’s Brayden Campbell was first overall with a score of 75, Marysville’s Ayden Mares took second, just three strokes back at 78, while Pierce’s Calvin Bair shot 84 to finish in third place.
