Williams Golf Finding the Zone

WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – With 10 returners and 14 new players, its safe to say that golf is catching on at Williams High School and based on results from last week’s two Sacramento Valley League matches, the Yellowjackets seem to be finding their zone.

Playing at the Arbuckle Golf Club on Mar. 25, the Yellowjackets took fourth behind Durham, Paradise and East Nicolaus with Ryan Araujo and Jorge Saavedra leading the way.

Following up in Willows on Mar. 28, the ‘Jackets jumped up into second place, overtaking Willows, East Nicolaus and Colusa.

Saavedra again turned in the low card for Williams with Matthew Cervantes also turning in a solid performance.

For Coach Darren Robinson, the support his team receives from the community and the progress his team has shown is making the season a memorable one thus far.

“Our kids are basically starting from scratch in learning the game and none of them have their own clubs,” Robinson said. “We survive on donations and this year those have been great. Thanks to the community every player has their own set of clubs and a bag to use for the season.”

Williams next play in an SVL match in Colusa on Apr. 10.
