Maxwell Baseball Splits with Los Mo

Maxwell catcher Colt Montgomery tags out Los Molinos’s Kyson Button in a game on Mar. 28.

MAXWELL, CA (MPG) – A young Panther squad suffered through some growing pains last week when after holding off Mid-Valley League foe Los Molinos 10-7 on the road last Tuesday, it returned home to suffer a 4-14 loss to the Bulldogs two days later.

In Los Molinos, Maxwell jumped out to an early 8-4 lead, and even though the Bulldogs chipped away at the advantage, they were not able to close the gap.

Coach Tyler Wells singled out the play of Colt Montgomery in the win, as the freshman catcher had himself a day at the plate collecting three hits including a pair of doubles and driving in six of the Panthers runs.

Yahir Alcaraz, Walter Avery and Massey Baker combined for the win on the mound.

Yet, it was an altogether different story at home last Thursday as despite scattering six hits, Panther pitchers issued a combined 14 free passes in what was just Maxwell’s second setback on the season.

Panther shortstop Walter Avery pulls down a high throw as Los Molinos’ s Wyatt Gillett slides safely into second base.

At the plate, Alcaraz went 2 for 3 with two RBI, while Noel Velazquez drove in a pair of runs with a double.

This week, the Panthers (10-2, 1-1) began play at Durham’s Bill Wells Invitational today with games against Los Molinos and Woodland Christian before finishing up on Saturday against the host Trojans.
