Williams Boys Soccer Runs the Table

The Yellowjackets’ Ernie Lemus splits the Maxwell defense for a shot on goal in a match between the country rivals on Feb. 8.

WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – After outscoring their opponents 113-8 this season, it comes as no great surprise that the Yellowjacket boys’ soccer team has completed the regular season with an unblemished 16-0 record and enters the Northern Section Division IV playoffs as the No. 1 seed.

Such firepower was on full display last week as the ‘Jackets captured the Mid-Valley League crown by finishing off Durham 12-1 before shutting out Maxwell 4-0.

In the blowout win on the road in Durham on Feb. 7, Luis Jimenez completed the hat trick, while Kaled Rosales put two in the back of the net and assisted on three others.

Leo Esparza also scored a brace of goals against the Trojans, with Rigoberto Ramirez, Angel Villanueva, Salvador Ruiz, and Phillip Santillan adding one apiece.

Following up the next day, Williams held visiting Maxwell at bay to claim the 4-0 victory in the regular season finale.

Ernie Lemus finished the match with two goals, Ruiz and Adrian Solis each netted one, while Rosales assisted three times.

This season, the Yellowjacket attack has been virtually unstoppable, averaging seven goals a game, led by Lemus, who has accounted for 24 goals and 21 assists, along with Rosales, the section’s leader in assists with 38, who has also scored 16 times.

Williams’ goalkeeper Jesse Velazquez awaits a corner kick in a match against Maxwell on Feb. 8.

In goal, Jesse Velazquez has performed admirably when called upon, keeping nine clean sheets this season.

As the top seed in the playoffs, Williams had a first round bye and will return to the pitch at McCarl Field on Feb. 20 when it hosts the winner between No. 4 Redding Christian and No. 5 Colusa.
