Panther Boys Ambushed by Biggs

Maxwell’s Tanner Vierra takes the ball to the basket in the Panthers’ game against Biggs on Jan. 19.

MAXWELL, CA (MPG) – In nature, Wolverines are described as ferocious predators and that is an apt portrayal for the way the Biggs basketball team ambushed the hometown Panthers last Friday night, handing them a 32-72 Mid-Valley League loss.

Down nine after one period of play, Maxwell could do little to prevent the Wolverines from increasing their lead as the game progressed as it struggled against the press and could not find the range with their shots.

Noel Velazquez recorded a team-high 12 points and Tanner Vierra added eight points, but it was nowhere near enough to offset the Biggs onslaught, which saw four players finish in double figures.

Maxwell also had a home game against CORE Butte on Jan. 16, although no information was made available.

The Panthers (7-11, 1-2) had a tough task this week when it hosted first place Los Molinos on Tuesday ahead of their game with Hamilton City this evening.
