MAXWELL, CA (MPG) – Maxwell evened its record in the Mid-Valley League at 1-1 last Friday night when it pulled away in the second half to down Williams 36-22.
An offensive adjustment in the second quarter by the Panthers to combat the ‘Jackets’ shot-blocking tandem of Lupita Zuniga and Mia Rivera afforded Maxwell better looks at the basket and ultimately the victory.
As she has all season long, leading scorer Emma Hendrix, finished with a game-high 12 points for the Panthers, while Camila Hernandez made a big contribution as well, finishing with 11 points.
For the short-handed Yellowjackets, who were not officially back in session until Jan. 16, Rivera pulled down 16 rebounds to go along with eight points, while Maddie Davalos chipped in with seven points.

This week Maxwell (5-4) looked to move up in the MVL standings with home games against CORE Butte and Biggs on Jan. 16 and 19 respectively.
Williams (1-9, 0-2) was in Hamilton City on Tuesday and is home tonight to face CORE Butte.
