Basketball Roundup

Girls:

Colusa 43 – Winters 37 (1/8)

Colusa 52 – Willows 31 (1/10)

Colusa 53 – Live Oak 20 (1/12)

Last week was a busy one albeit successful for the RedHawks as they downed three opponents in Sacramento Valley League play.

In its first game back from break, Colusa held off the visiting Warriors behind a 26-point effort from Danica Chavez.

Addison Lay corralled 11 rebounds and tossed in six points, while Olivia Huskey finished with seven points.

On the road in Willows, Huskey led the way with a season-high 22 points, followed by Chavez with 14 points.

Back in the confines of Don Bransford Gymnasium, 10 RedHawks broke into the scoring column in a romp over Live Oak, although Chavez was the only one to hit double figures, ending the game with 10 points.

Colusa (13-5, 4-0) put its seven-game win streak on the line Tuesday night in Arbuckle and heads to Durham tonight.

Pierce 40 – Paradise 34 (1/8)

Pierce 44 – Durham 48 (1/10)

Pierce 26 – East Nicolaus 26 (1/12)

Also returning from break and having to play three conference games, the Bears won the first, but inexperience proved detrimental as they dropped the next two.

Charlie Wayman finished with a team-high 12 points and Magali Jauregui added nine to give Pierce its first SVL win this season on the road in Paradise.

However, the team was not able to carry any momentum into its next two games as they fell to Durham and East Nicolaus in turn.

Statistics from the two losses were not available.

This week, the Bears (7-11, 1-4) hosted Colusa in a rivalry game on Tuesday and are in Live Oak this evening.

Boys:

Colusa 69 – Winters 52 (1/8)

Colusa 70 – Willows 29 (1/10)

Colusa 71 – Live Oak 29 (1/12)

SVL opponents are having a hard time handling the RedHawks as they improved to 4-0 in conference play and 12-5 overall with three straight wins by an average differential of 33 points.

Opening 2024 in Winters, four seniors had noteworthy efforts to lead the way.

Isaiah Travis finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Landon Humphrey had 16 points and six assists, Luke Kalfsbeek shot 70 percent from the floor to tally 15 points, while Seth Kalisuch tossed in 12 points.
