Basketball Roundup 12-22-23

BOYS

Princeton 78 – Maxwell 62 (12/11)

The Eagles pushed their win streak to nine straight last week as they racked up three more wins and remained unbeaten thus far.

Princeton downed Maxwell for the second time in three days behind a 35-point, nine-assist effort from Junior Andrade, and got plenty of help from Nate Ramirez who finished with 14 points and Corwyn Roberson who tossed in 12 points.

On the road in Quincy to face Plumas Charter in a Pioneer League contest, Chris Roberson had a double-double with 14 rebounds and 10 points, while Andrade, Ramirez and Tito Reynoso added 17, 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Rounding out the week at home against the Lynx, Andrade posted a double-double, which included 35 points and 12 assists.

Ramirez and Reynoso chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Princeton looked to continue its dominance this week when it opened play in Los Molinos at the Block LM Tournament on Dec. 21.

Last week was a tough one for the Panthers, who despite averaging 64 points
per game, suffered through some narrow losses.

Maxwell (5-9) was in Esparto on Monday before taking a couple weeks off
for Winter Break.

Orland Lady Trojan Classic:
Pierce 55 – Mt. Shasta 25 (12/14)
Pierce 39 – Orland 42 (12/15)
Pierce 42 – Las Plumas 35 (12/16)

Leah Charter and Letzy Ambriz were named to the All-Tournament team as the
Bears went 2-1 in Orland last week.

Pierce (5-5), who faced off against Anderson at home on Monday, provided
no statistics.

Emma Hendrix accounted for 17 points and seven rebounds, and Teresita Salazar finished with 12 points to lead the Panthers to a road win over Princeton to start last week.

However, statistics from Maxwell’s other games were not available by the Pioneer Review submission deadline.

In its final contest before the winter break, the Panthers (2-3) entertained Esparto on Dec. 18.

To start last week, the RedHawks dropped a rematch with Sutter, a team it beat on Dec. 2 to win its home tournament.

This time around, Danica Chavez tossed in a team-high 14 points, while Alena Sanchez finished with six, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Huskies.

In Sutter for its tournament, although no statistics were made available, Colusa reported that Chavez, a junior, eclipsed the 1,000thpoint mark for her career thus far.

This week the RedHawks (7-5) hosted Gridley on Monday in their only game before heading into break.

Princeton 37 – CORE Butte 34 (12/14)

After falling to Maxwell to start off last week, the Eagles earned their first win of the season over CORE Butte after boys coach Jordan Dillard took the helm.

Although no statistics from the loss to the Panthers were available, against the Lynx, Mackenzie Wills recorded a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Sissy Winn dropped in 10 points.

Princeton (1-4) was in Los Molinos for the Block LM Tournament, which started on Thursday.
