COLUSA, CA (MPG) –Sacramento Valley League cross country teams from Colusa, Pierce, Willows, Winters and Williams assembled last Tuesday at the Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area for the conference championship.

Cool temperatures made for comfortable conditions at the meet which saw the RedHawk varsity girls capture their second straight team title, while Willows ran away with the varsity boy’s crown.
Colusa’s girls had six place in the top 10 to earn All-League honors en route to the team win, led by Itzel Cruz and Eloise Guerrero who finished one-two respectively in the race.

Cruz, a newcomer to the sport, crossed the line first in personal record time of 22:46 and ahead of her teammate Guerrero (22:48) who also finished second a year ago, but shaved 48 seconds off her time from 2024 in the process.
Rounding out the RedHawks’ squad was Shaheen Orr (25:17) in seventh, Olivia Stever (26:34) in eighth and Jaylene Chavez (26:43) in ninth.
Williams’ Andrea Velazquez (23:04) turned in a nice effort to claim third place, while Pierce’s Dayami Villanueva (27:04) took tenth amongst the field of 25.
In the varsity boy’s division, Willows claimed five of the top 10 placings most notably, the newly crowned champion Tavian Bobadilla, who posted a winning time of 18:16.

Still, there were strong showings from a pair of underclassmen in the Yellowjackets’ Manuel Santillan, whose time of 18:28 was good for second and Colusa’s Brian Sarabia (18:35) who finished third.

Also warranting a spot on the All-SVL squad was Pierce’s Adan Beltran (18:43) in fifth place along with Williams’ Phillip Santillan (19:51) in ninth.
Meanwhile, on the 2 mile JV course, Pierce controlled the girls race with Alonda Lopez (15:51), Olivia Dudley (16:15), Victoria Brown (17:23), Cindy Rodriguez (17:29) and Jazmin Herrera (17:54) subsequently taking first through fifth place, while in the boys’ contest Bear teammate Jonathan Navarro (15:28) was third.
This week runners headed to Cottonwood for the Northern Section CIF Championships which were held on Nov. 13 at West Valley High School.
