Rotary Honored for 100 Years of Service

COLUSA, CA (MPG) — The City of Colusa recognized the Rotary Club of Colusa on Oct. 7 for a century of community service and its leadership in the city’s Trees for Tomorrow program.

Councilmember Denise Conrado read a proclamation on behalf of Mayor Ryan Codorniz and the City Council, commending the club for its 100 years of service and continued commitment to civic improvement.

contribution to the Trees for Tomorrow program.
“The Rotary Club of Colusa was founded in 1925, composed of business and professional men and women of the community,” Conrado read. “The main objective of Rotary is service to the community and throughout the world.”

The proclamation highlighted the club’s role in planting more than 100 trees throughout public spaces in Colusa as part of the Trees for Tomorrow initiative, a collaboration between the city’s Parks, Recreation, and Tree Commission and the Rotary Club. The effort aims to increase green space, improve air quality, and ensure shaded areas for future generations.

“The City of Colusa is most grateful to the over 43 Rotarians and family members who volunteered their time to purchase and plant these trees,” the proclamation continued. “Their efforts will contribute significantly to the beauty and livability of the city.”

In partnership with the city, the Rotary has helped residents select and plant trees on both public and private property, with all participants pledging to water and care for their trees to ensure long-term success.

Beyond its environmental efforts, the Rotary Club of Colusa has a long legacy of service projects, scholarships, and community leadership. The club recently completed restoration of the steps along the Sacramento River on Fifth Street and plans to replace the aging steps on Main Street.

Founded in 1925 under then-Mayor Oscar Robinson, the Colusa Rotary has maintained its mission of “Service Above Self” for ten decades. The club’s centennial year was marked earlier this spring with the planting of its 100th tree at Will S. Green Park.

Colusa Rotary President Jim Sherman now leads the organization into its next century of service, continuing projects that build on the work of generations of local Rotarians dedicated to improving their community.
