COLUSA, CA (MPG) — A donated county vehicle will soon help Colusa County residents reach medical appointments and essential services through the Tri-Counties Community Action Partnership.
The Colusa County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 23 approved the donation of a 2011 Ford Fusion to the organization, which operates transportation and outreach programs that serve local families in need.
Assistant County Administrative Officer Molly West said the donation originated from the Department of Health and Human Services, which no longer had use for the vehicle.
“Health and Human Services regularly refers clients to TCCAP’s transportation program to ensure they can attend appointments, pick up prescriptions, and meet other critical health needs,” West said. “This resolution allows that vehicle to continue serving the public.”
Under state law, counties may donate surplus property to other public agencies or qualifying nonprofit organizations, provided the item continues to be used for a public purpose. The Tri-Counties Community Action Partnership qualifies as an eligible agency under that statute.
The group operates across Colusa, Glenn, and Trinity counties, providing services that include transportation, community health workers, and care management. Locally, it helps residents overcome one of the county’s biggest barriers to care: lack of reliable transportation.
The resolution specifies that if TCCAP later decides to dispose of the vehicle, it must transfer it to another qualifying agency or seek written consent from the Board of Supervisors before taking any action.
West said the conditions ensure that the donation remains consistent with state law and continues to serve a public need.
“There’s no fiscal impact to the county,” West said. “This is a simple way to help support a partner that’s already filling an important role in the community.”
Supervisors approved the resolution without objection.
