COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Colusa’s tennis team flexed its muscles last week in two respective 8-1 wins over Sacramento Valley League rivals Shasta Charter and Durham.
On the road in Redding to play Shasta Charter on Sept. 23, the RedHawks took five of the six singles matches then swept the doubles.

Charter and Durham on the road.
No. 1 Janell Garcia (6-0, 6-0) got things started with a straight set victory, while No. 3 Yali Cruz (6-2, 3-6 (11-9)), No. 4 Charlie Stever (6-0, 6-1), No. 5 Ximena Dominguez (6-1, 6-0) and No. 6 Perla Olazo (6-0, 6-0) won out as well.
Colusa then breezed through the doubles with the No. 1 duo of Garcia and Emily Lopez prevailing 8-4, with the pairs of Stever and Lizeth Ramirez along with Cruz and Dominguez downing their opponents by the identical score of 8-2.
Making the trip to Paradise to face a Durham squad that has no courts of its own on Sept. 25, the RedHawks had to work a little harder to achieve the desired result.
Although Garcia had no trouble posting another 6-0, 6-0 win, Lopez at No. 2 outlasted her opponent 6-6 (7-3), 2-6, 10-6, with Cruz (6-4, 6-0), Stever (6-1, 6-2) and Olazo (5-7, 6-4, 10-5) also triumphing in singles.
From there, Colusa swept the doubles matches as the tandems of Garcia/Lopez (8-0), Stever/Ramirez (8-2) and Cruz/Dominguez (8-4) each took care of business.
Still perfect in conference play, this week the RedHawks (5-0) were home to Willows on Oct. 2.
