Colusa 3 – Willows 0 (9/9)

Colusa 3 – Winters 0 (9/11)

Having returned from Southern California, where they finished 2-3 at the Cardinal Classic in Whittier, the RedHawks swept their three Northern Section opponents last week.

 

Back in the familiar confines of Dan Bransford Gymnasium, Colusa opened Sacramento Valley League play with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-24 victory over Willows.

 

On the attack, Peyton Miller had a match-high 12 kills, Abby Coronado and Cecelia Mitchum finished with seven kills apiece, with setters Cindel Oliver and Leyla Avera distributing 15 and 10 assists respectively.

 

Kendall Marengo had a strong effort at the net on defense with five blocks, while Mitchum collected 20 digs in the back row.

 

Traveling to Hamilton City the following evening, the RedHawks had a tougher go of it, but managed to emerge with a 20-25, 25-14,

19-25, 30-28, 15-9 victory.

 

Mitchum had a big night with 16 kills and 21 digs as did Miller who finished with 14 kills and 21 digs.

 

In the middle, Coronado logged 12 kills and six blocks, while Marlie Berry ended the match with 15 digs.

 

To complete last week, the RedHawks cruised past SVL rival Winters 25-19, 25-23, 25-13 behind 11 kills from Coronado and 10 each from Mitchum and Miller.

 

Colusa (14-6, 2-0) played subsequent non-conference matches against U-Prep and Williams on Tuesday and Wednesday before it faced off against Pierce on Thursday in an SVL match that will knock one team from the top of the standings.

 

Princeton 3 – Plumas Charter 2 (9/8)

Princeton broke through for its first win of the season after edging Plumas Charter by scores of 25-15, 19-25, 25-23, 25-18, 15-4.

 

Reyan Sullivan had a big night, pacing the Eagles with 13 kills, while Gabby Trujillo did some damage from the service stripe finishing with seven kills.

 

Directing the offense was Lupe Espinoza, who dished out 17 assists, then for good measure served six aces.

 

Jenna Silva made a team-high 12 digs to spearhead the defense.

 

Princeton was in Loyalton on Monday then made the trip to play Westwood on Thursday.

 

 

Pierce 3 – Williams 0 (9/9)

Pierce 3 – Willows 0 (9/11)

Starting last week with a sweep of county rival Williams, the Bears opened Sacramento Valley League play.

 

Against the Yellowjackets, Pierce’s one-two punch of Leah Charter and Rylie Delepierre tallied 14 and 12 kills respectively to lead the way, while Magali Jauregui continued to facilitate the attack by handing out 22 assists as it won out 25-13, 25-14, 25-22.

 

As she has this season, Charter also played a critical role defensively making 14 digs, as did libero Leslye Velasquez who also ended the match with 14 digs.

 

No information from the Willows match was made available.

 

This week Pierce (13-6, 1-0) played non-conference away matches in Gridley and Durham respectively on Sept. 15 and 16 before hosting SVL and county rival Colusa on Sept. 18.

 

 

 

Maxwell 3 – Los Molinos 1 (9/8)

Maxwell 1 – CORE Butte 3 (9/9)

Maxwell 3 – Live Oak 0 (9/11)

The Panthers went 2-1 in non-conference play last week having defeated Los Molinos and Live Oak but in between dropped a match to CORE Butte.

 

No other information was provided by the Panthers (9-10) who according to their schedule return to action on Sept. 23 at home against Williams.
