Three applications were submitted for the seat, including Gomez, Amos Tomlin and Cynthia Nunez. The appointment was made on a 3-2 vote.
District 1 Supervisor Merced Corona said he and District 3 Supervisor Kent Boes reviewed the applications since the district falls within District 3 but is served by District 1.
“We looked at applicants and I know two of the applicants,” Corona said. “I don’t know Amos Tomlin very well, but I have read his application. All three would make great candidates”
Corona said Gomez stood out for her community involvement. In her application, Gomez wrote, “I have lived in Arbuckle most of my life and care about our town. I like to be involved and active in my community. I have years of experience serving on various committees and boards and I would like to serve on this one.”
Boes said he relied on Corona’s knowledge of Arbuckle residents.
“Together we landed on Ms. Gomez, so that would be our recommendation,” he said.
Corona added his thanks to all three applicants. “To have three people, a selection of people to choose from, for a volunteer position, they don’t get paid for, and want to be on the board, I want to thank the applicants for applying,” he said.
