Buchanan is known for her use of textiles, paint, laser-cut iron stencils and the natural rusting process to create images of Western landscapes and rural settings. Her work draws from quilting and painting techniques, producing fiber art wall hangings, pillows, tote bags and fabric panels that can also be mounted as standalone art.

For 15 years, Buchanan was active in the soft home furnishings industry as a sewer, teacher and supporter of the community. Since retiring, she has focused on hand-dyed textiles and watercolor painting. Her process combines design, sunlight and oxidation to create fabrics in which no two pieces are the same.
The exhibition highlights scenes of Colusa and surrounding counties. Buchanan will attend the opening reception, where light refreshments will be served. The show runs through Dec. 15.
