Two Wins for Colusa Tennis

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Colusa’s girls tennis team is off to a good start in the 2025 season having posted victories over Oroville and Corning on Aug. 19 and Aug. 28 respectively.

 

In Oroville, the RedHawks had an easy go of it, sweeping past the Tigers led by their No. 1, Janell Garcia, who blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0.

 

Following suit in picking up a straight set triumph was No. 2 Charlie Stever (6-0, 6-0), No. 3 Emily Lopez (7-5, 6-2) and No. 5 Yali Cruz (6-0, 6-0), while No. 4 Perla Olazo (6-6 (6-8), 10-5) played to a draw.

 

In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Garcia and Cruz cruised to an 8-0 win, in the No. 2  match Emily Lopez and Andrea Lopez triumphed 8-6 and the No. 3 pair of Stever and Olazo closed out the match 8-4.

 

Facing Corning on the road last week, Colusa downed the Cardinals by picking up four singles wins and taking all the doubles.

 

Garcia again dominated her match prevailing 6-0, 6-1, while Cruz (6-1, 6-0), Olazo (6-3, 6-6 (7-4)) and No. 5 Lizeth Ramirez (6-2, 6-3) also won.

 

On the doubles court, Garcia and Cruz battled to an 8-8 (10-7) win, while the tandems of Lopez and Lopez (8-5) along with Ramirez and Vivian Trejo (8-4) recorded victories as well.

 

Colusa rounded out the preseason this week having hit the road to play Las Plumas on Sept. 6 ahead of its home match against Oroville on Sept. 4.
