Little Library Dedicated in Williams Garden

Williams, CA (MPG) — The Colusa County Master Gardeners dedicated a Little Library on Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the Donna Critchfield Memorial Garden, located between the Colusa County Office of Education campus and the Yuba Community College campus on Marguerite Street.

The Colusa County Master Gardeners filled the Little Library with books. The library was built
by Christopher Roland, a Life Scout with Troop 5 Colusa, for his Eagle Scout project.

The library was built by Christopher Roland, a Life Scout with Troop 5 Colusa, as his Eagle Scout project.

Roland said he chose the project after being in contact with Gerri Hernandez of the Colusa County Master Gardeners, and Karyna Barrera, community outreach coordinator for the UC Master Gardener program, helped facilitate the process of obtaining permissions.

“The Little Library in the garden is a great opportunity for visitors to stop by and have a look,” Barrera said. “It also is positioned well between the two facilities.”

The Master Gardeners filled the library with a selection of gardening books for the public to borrow and enjoy.

Christopher Roland, a Life Scout with Troop 5 Colusa, places the first book into the newly dedicated Mini Library he built for his Eagle Scout project at the Donna Critchfield Memorial Garden in Williams.

For Roland, the project was a step toward earning the Eagle Scout rank, the highest achievement in Boy Scouts of America. To become an Eagle Scout, candidates must demonstrate leadership, complete merit badges, and plan, develop, and give leadership to a service project that benefits a community organization.

“This was a good opportunity to create something lasting that people can use,” Roland said.

Roland enjoyed constructing the little library, and installing it for all to enjoy.

The project received support from James and Leijaira Swiggum, Ace Hardware in Colusa, Fulcher Paint in Colusa, Troop 5 Colusa, and Terri and Kris Swiggum.
