COLUSA, CA (MPG) —The 44th District Agricultural Association is calling on local high-school juniors to help shape three of the county’s biggest public events by serving on its volunteer Junior Fair Board.
The board is open to students who will be juniors during the 2025-26 school year at any of Colusa County’s five public campuses: Arbuckle, Colusa, Maxwell, Princeton and Williams.
Members serve a two-year term, working with fair staff, vendors and community groups to give students a voice in fair decisions. The unpaid role offers hands-on experience in event logistics, teamwork and public service, skills that carry into jobs or college.
“Applicants do not have to be in 4-H or FFA or show livestock; we encourage any junior from our five public county high schools to apply,” said Fair Board Member, Laurie Costa.
Organizers say the board exists to give young residents a direct role in planning and running fairground programs. Members meet once a month throughout the year and must work at least two events before the June fair. An absence from three monthly meetings without an excuse ends the appointment.
Junior Fair Board members will assist at the Holiday Craft Faire in November, the Colusa Farm Show in February and the Colusa County Fair in June. Additional duties are assigned as needed, ranging from greeting visitors to helping keep activities on schedule.
The association hopes to seat a board that reflects a range of interests and backgrounds, noting that agricultural experience is not required. Board input also helps the fair association tailor attractions to younger audiences.
Interested students need to complete the official application and turn it in to the fair office at 1303 10th St. in Colusa, or mail it to the same address, by Sept. 12, 2025. Packets are available now and can also be requested by calling 530-458-2641. Forms must include current school information confirming junior status for the coming academic year.
