Maxwell Harvest Festival Aug. 16

MAXWELL, CA (MPG) — Maxwell will host its first-ever Harvest Festival on August 16, at Maxwell High School, featuring bull and bronc riding, BBQ and Dutch oven competitions, vendors, and live music.

The new event is organized by Brian Moniz at BM Bar Custom Meats, who was inspired after attending a BBQ contest in another town.

“I work for a rodeo company, and we went to a BBQ competition and thought it would be a cool deal for Maxwell,” Moniz said.

Kicking off at noon, the festival’s BBQ competition is open to active or retired first responders, while the Dutch Oven contest welcomes all. The Dutch Oven contest will feature categories for chili and desserts. “No beans in the chili,” said Moniz. “Or you’re disqualified.”

Qualified contestants can register for the cook off events by calling (530) 438-0014.

Throughout the day, attendees can browse booths from clothing vendors, and organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, and others—plus a possible display of vintage tractors. Vendor booths are free, and interested parties can contact Kyle Miller at (530) 501-6588.

Evening highlights include a grand rodeo entry in the main arena with bronc and bull riding, events presented by Silver Bridge Rodeo Company. Local organizations Maxwell FFA and Maxwell Blue & Gold will assist with parking as a fundraiser.

“I want everyone to come out and have fun,” said Moniz, “come enjoy the food, the activities, and the day.”

Tickets for the bronc and bull riding events are $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. They can be purchased at the gate or in advance at these locations: BM Bar Custom Meats, Maxwell; Maxwell Inn, Maxwell; Colusa County Farm Supply, Williams; Washburn Ag & Feed, Arbuckle; Bucke’s Feed, Orland; Wild Wild West, Orland; and Carl’s Feed, Willows.

After the rodeo, a live band will keep the party going at Maxwell Inn Bar & Grill.

“I want everyone to come out and have fun, enjoy the food, and the day,” Moniz said.
