Colusa, CA (MPG) – Colusa High School is making waves in the world of STEM education with the exciting arrival of its newest addition from Boston Dynamic, a state-of-the-art robot named SPOT. With the addition of new Physical Science, Dual Enrollment Chemistry, and Dual Enrollment Computer Science courses, the school created a qualifying elective pathway for the California Department of Education’s GSPP Planning Grant and was able to acquire SPOT at no cost to the school. The effort was led by STEM teacher, Benjamin Haney, whose initiative helped secure this advanced technology to enhance hands-on learning for Colusa students.

David Johnstone, CHS Principal, expressed immense pride in the school’s growing STEM program, “This is a huge leap forward for Colusa, and as principal, I couldn’t be more proud to be part of this exciting adventure.”
SPOT will be used across subjects and students will program it to collect environmental data like air quality, which chemistry classes will then analyze. This gives students hands-on experience with coding, data analysis, machine learning, and real-world tech ethics.
