COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – Since 1978, high school football fans have looked forward to the annual Lions All-Star Game, a showcase for graduating seniors, but also a fundraiser for the Lions Club Camp Mc Cumber, which provides outdoor experiences for children with diabetes.
What’s different about this years’ game however, is that it has a distinct Colusa County flavor given that a combined 10 seniors along with the coaching staffs for the both the South’s small and large squads are locals.
Seven of those players will participate in the Small School game, featuring athletes from Divisions IV, V and VI.
Included on the roster are Maxwell’s Walter Avery, Richard Diaz, Brody Jones and Noel Velazquez, along with Colusa’s Damien Arreguin, Adan Travis and Jose Valencia.
Maxwell’s Lane Davis and his staff will serve as coaches for the South.
Encompassing players from Divisions II and III, the South’s large school squad will feature Pierce’s Drew Burnum, Humberto Esqueda and Jose Pinon and will be coached by the Bears’ Anthony Tapia and his staff.
Slated for June 21 at Chico High School, the Small School Game kicks off at 5:00 followed by the Large School Game at 7:30.
Those interested in attending can purchase tickets online by visiting the District 4-CI Lions Club All-Star Football Game website.
