Colusa Softball Sweeps Pierce

Colusa freshman Bella Romero has provided a new energy for the RedHawks since being called up at the end of the
regular season.

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Colusa remained atop the Sacramento Valley League standings after sweeping Pierce in the final two regular season games of the year, but in between suffered a disappointing 6-7 non-conference loss to visiting Woodland Christian.

Marching into Arbuckle last Tuesday, the RedHawks put crooked numbers on the board in all five innings en route to their 16-4 win.

At the plate, Ava Garcia finished 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBI, Elli Santana went 2 for 3 with a double and drove in two runs, while Marlie Berry also picked up two hits.

Garcia and Bella Romero combined for the win in the circle where neither surrendered an earned run.

The RedHawks’ Abril Guzman drives in a run with a hit in a game against Pierce on May 9.

For the Bears, Rylie Delepierre had two hits with Ariana Ambriz, Danica Hagle, Jocelyn Ramos and Maicey Hoebel each logging a hit.

Returning home for the second game, Colusa proved ungracious hosts as they scored five runs in the first and went on to claim the 7-0 victory.

Pierce shortstop Jocelyn Ramos looks on as Colusa’s Braelyn Santana rounds second base in a game played on May 9.

Again, it was the duo of Garcia and Romero shutting down the Pierce offense allowing just three hits and recording five strikeouts apiece.

Boasting a .354 team batting average thus far, the RedHawk bats stayed hot as Braelyn Santana was 2 for 2, Elli Santana went 2 for 4, while Abril Guzman, Addison Lay, Aliah Ramirez and Garcia had hits as well.

Meanwhile, Pierce had Ramos garner a pair of hits, with Hoebel and Ambriz accounting for the other two.

The only blemish for Colusa last week was the loss at home to Woodland Christian as miscues allowed the Cardinals to rally from six runs down to edge the RedHawks.

The Bears’ Ariana Ambriz throws to first for an out during the regular season finale played on May 9 in Colusa.

Garcia, Elli Santana, Braelyn Santana, Aliah Ramirez, Zayla Ramirez and Elli Quintana delivered Colusa’s six hits.

Still ranked No.1 in the Northern Section’s Division IV, the RedHawks (19-7, 11-1) learned their playoff fate on Wednesday, after the Pioneer Review print deadline.
