Baseball/Softball Roundup

Baseball:

Colusa 5 – Winters 6 (4/1)

Colusa 0 – Winters 16 (4/4)

After seeing one slip away at home last Tuesday, the short-handed RedHawks were shutout on the road to end last week in a pair of Sacramento Valley League contests against Winters.

Colusa’s Lucas Price had a nice effort on the mound in the RedHawks’ 5-6 loss to Winters at home on Apr. 1.

Colusa’s run of bad luck continued as despite rallying back in the first game to tie the score in the fifth inning, saw the Warriors strike for the game winner in the top of the seventh.

Lucas Price put forth a solid effort in seven innings on the mound, suffering the hard-luck loss after scattering five hits, fanning four and surrendering just three earned runs.

Rowdy Moore was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Kane Nall doubled and drove in a run as part of his 2 for 3 day, while Price and Mason Gutierrez both picked up a pair of hits.

However, three days later the RedHawks could not get anything going, as they were one-hit in a run-rule shortened loss.

RedHawk second baseman Ashton Gutierrez elevates to catch a high throw and hold Winters’ base runner Derrick Collins on the bag.

Colton Nobles registered the only hit for Colusa, who is still searching for its first win of the season.

This week, the RedHawks entertained Paradise on Tuesday and hit the road today to complete the series with the Bobcats.

Pierce 7 – Paradise 8 (4/1)

Pierce 0 – Paradise 10 (4/3)

With Pierce holding a 7-4 lead going into the fifth in the opening game of the Sacramento Valley League series, the Bobcats put a four-spot on the board to jump ahead and disappoint the Bears at home.

Easton Richins and Damien Ambriz both went 2 for 4 and Colin Dye knocked in a pair of runs.

Yet, things didn’t go as well in second game in Paradise, as Connor Harris was the only Bear batter to reach base via a hit.

Pierce (2-11, 0-4) was in Winters on Apr. 8 before returning home to host the Warriors today.

Softball:

Pierce 2 – Paradise 5 (4/1)

Pierce 6 – Paradise 7 (4/3)

In a pair of Sacramento Valley League games against Paradise, the Bears were edged twice by the Bobcats.

Pierce’s Nayeli Lievanos had a hit in the Bears’ 2-5 loss to Paradise on Apr. 1.

Starting last week at home, the game was tied at 2-2 before Paradise scored three runs in the seventh.

Maicey Hoebel was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while Ariana Ambriz, Nayeli Lievanos and Danica Hagle had one hit apiece.

At “The Ridge” last Thursday, each team had 10 hits, but errors proved to be the difference in the outcome.

Hoebel again led the way at the plate, finishing 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBI.

LucaBella Nolen went 2 for 3 with a double and a pair of RBI, while Danica Wilkerson collected two hits as well.

In the circle, Hoebel pitched well enough to win, striking out eight and allowing only two earned runs, but the Bears fell short.

Looking for its first SVL win, Pierce (4-8, 0-4) traveled to Winters on Apr. 8 and welcomes the Warriors to town this afternoon.

Maxwell 6 – Portola 26 (4/2)

Maxwell 5 – Portola 24

The Maxwell softball team looked to get back on track in two games against Williams this week.

It was a rough Mid-Valley League home opener for the Panthers as they dropped a doubleheader to Portola last Wednesday.

No statistics were provided by Maxwell (2-11, 0-2) who opened a series in Williams on Apr. 8 and concludes it today at home.
