Golf Tourney Honors Myers’ Legacy

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Colusa High School’s golf team paid tribute to one of its own last Wednesday at the Colusa Golf and Country Club when it hosted teams from Pierce, Willows, Orland, Paradise, Marysville and Maxwell at the 2nd Annual Brady Myers Memorial Invitational.

A standout athlete for Colusa in the mid-1970s, Myers went on to become a Division I All-American golfer at Fresno State, before returning home to where was an active member of the community and continued to pursue his passion for golf.

Following his sudden passing in 2023 plans for the tournament emerged, with the inaugural event occurring last spring.

Providing a platform for high school golfers to hone their craft is something that Myers’ daughter, Mattie Steinhoff, said was a fitting tribute to her father.

“I know my dad would have been incredibly proud to see the younger generation stepping onto the course, whether it was their first time or their hundredth,” Steinhoff said. “Golf was at the heart of my dad’s life. He spent so many years at this course, not just playing, but also teaching and sharing his love for the game. It was his true passion.”

At this years’ event, Maryville topped the field with a team score of 257 and was followed by Paradise (270) in second and Colusa (291) in third.

Winning the longest drive competition was the RedHawks’ William Wolf, Jr. who launched one 266 yards on the seventh hole.

In the end however, the day was more about developing a love for the sport as Steinhoff explained, “It was an honor to see my dad’s legacy live on through a high school golf invitational. It’s incredibly meaningful for us because it’s about the values he instilled in others: hard work, passion and a love for the game.  To see his influence continue to inspire young athletes fills us with pride and gratitude.  We are deeply thankful to everyone involved in making this possible.”
