GALT, CA (MPG) – After a rather confounding placement saw them receive the No. 16 seed in the CIF Division IV Girls Basketball Championship, the Colusa girl’s basketball team did its best to upend No. 1 Liberty Ranch, but ultimately fell short 37-41 last Tuesday night to bring the season to an end.

Holding an 18-14 lead at the half, the RedHawks were outscored 16-7 in the third quarter and found themselves down 25-30 heading into the final period.
But despite their game effort, the ball didn’t bounce their way as Sac-Joaquin Division IV Champion Liberty Ranch, which had lost just twice on the season, hit a big three down the stretch and then capitalized on a Colusa turnover to put the game away.
Playing in their final game for the RedHawks, Danica Chavez and Alena Sanchez scored 13 and nine points respectively, while freshman Elli Quintana pitched in with seven points and looks ready to play a major role next season.
Colusa, the Sacramento Valley League champions and Northern Section CIF Division IV runner-up, finished the year with an overall record of 23-8.
