VISAILIA, CA (MPG) – Colusa County’s most prolific basketball scorer, former Pierce High School standout Jocelyn Medina did her community proud after being named the California Community College Athletic Association’s Women’s Basketball NorCal Player of the Year.

Medina, who scored 3,131 points while playing for the Bears, has continued to shine in her sophomore season for College of the Sequoias (COS), averaging 19.6 points, nine rebounds and 5.4 assists in addition to leading the state in 3-point shooting accuracy at 47.6 percent.

An All-State selection last season as a freshman at Butte College, Medina followed her coach Tyler Newton to COS and has led the Giants to the Central Valley Conference Championship and an overall 28-0 record this season.

Medina’s squad opened play in the 3C2A Northern California Regionals on Mar. 1 with a 98-57 blowout win over Cabrillo in which she finished two assists short of a triple-double after pouring in 22 points and pulling down 13 rebounds.
