COLUSA, CA (MPG) – A promising start and a furious finish was not enough for the RedHawks to earn a victory last Friday night as they fell 50-56 to visiting East Nicolaus in a Sacramento Valley League game.

A fast-paced first quarter benefited Colusa as they jumped out to a 15-14 lead, but turnovers and an inability to control the glass resulted in the Spartans turning the tables and extending their advantage to 11 going into the final period.
It has been a reoccurring theme for the RedHawks, who despite no lack of effort are struggling to finish on offense, a situation further compounded by a lack of second chance opportunities on their end of the court.
However, true to form, the scrappy bunch didn’t quit and despite cutting the deficit to six by the final buzzer, simply ran out of time.
Lucas Price poured in a game-high 23 points and Jace MacKaben pitched in with 10, but it wasn’t enough to offset the Spartans’ balanced attack.

Still seeking its first SVL win this season, Colusa (5-11, 0-3) hosts Pierce in a rivalry game tonight at Don Bransford Gymnasium.
