Basketball Roundup

Girls:

Colusa 73 – Paradise 23 (1/3)

Colusa’s Peyton Miller finished with a game-high 21 points in the RedHawks’ win over Paradise on Jan. 3.
The RedHawks’ Danica Chavez helped lift Colusa over visiting Paradise with a 20-point effort.

Showing no ill effects from the 12-day winter break, the RedHawks crushed the visiting Bobcats in their Sacramento Valley League opener.

Peyton Miller poured in a game-high 21 points, while Danica Chavez dropped 20 and McKenna Azbill finished with 13 points.

Colusa (8-5, 1-0) was in Durham on Jan. 7 and entertains East Nicolaus in a Homecoming matchup tonight.

Pierce 36 – Winters 28 (1/3)

Pierce’s Magali Jauregui dropped in 18 points to lead the Bears to a road win over Winters in their SVL opener.

On the road for their first Sacramento Valley League game of the season, the Bears took care of business against the Warriors to earn the win.

Leading the way for Pierce was Magali Jauregui with a game-high 18 points, while Rylie Delpierre chipped in with 10 points.

Now 9-5 overall, the Bears had a non-conference game in Anderson on Jan. 8, then returned home to take on Willows this evening.

Boys:

Pierce 64 – Valley (Sacramento) 28 (12/26)

Pierce 68 – Bear River 75 (12/27)

Pierce 47 – Fortuna 52 (12/28)

Pierce 53 – Winters 61 (1/3)

After having to settle for fourth place at Bear River’s Bruin Holiday Challenge, the Bears let one slip away in their Sacramento Valley League home opener against Winters.

Senior Gavin Guynn’s 20-point performance wasn’t enough for Pierce to hold off Winters in an SVL contest on Jan. 3.

Highlights from the tournament included a 14-point, 12-steal double-double from JR Figueroa in the contest against Valley, a 29-point effort from Devin Garcia, who shot 50 percent from the floor in the loss the host Bruins, along with Gavin Guynn tossing in 19 points in the finale against Fortuna.

However, last Friday night’s game against the visiting Warriors is one the Bears probably want back as despite holding a narrow advantage going into the fourth quarter, they were outscored 23-14 by Winters over the final eight minutes.

Guynn finished with a team-high 20 points in the loss.

Looking to end its three-game skid, Pierce (7-10, 0-1) squares off against Willows at home this evening.

Colusa 33 – Paradise 47 (1/3)

It was a rough opening to the regular season for the RedHawks as they struggled to find the range and as a result fell on the road in Paradise.

No statistics from the game were available.

This week Colusa (5-9, 0-1) hosted Durham on Jan. 7, prior to welcoming East Nicolaus to Don Bransford Gymnasium tonight for Homecoming.
