Two Earn All-Section Football Honors

COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – An official wrap to the 2024 football season occurred last month when media writers from across the North State finalized their picks for the All-Section Team.

Maxwell’s Noel Velazquez was named to the 2024 All-Northern Section second team offense.

Among the 50 selections were two Colusa County senior athletes in Maxwell’s Noel Velazquez and Pierce’s Humberto Esqueda, who were both featured on the second team.

Velazquez earned his spot on the second team offense as a QB/RB, having led the Panthers to an 11-2 overall record and into the NSCIF Division V title game for the first time in a decade.

In his final season for Maxwell, Velazquez, the Mid-Valley League’s Offensive Most Valuable Player, completed 120 of 188 passes for 2011 yards and 24 touchdowns resulting in an overall quarterback rating of 126.1, in addition to rushing 120 times for 721 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Meanwhile Esqueda, a relative new newcomer to football, was a menace to the Bears’ opponents and named to the second team defense after recording 65 tackles, including 24 for losses, six sacks and 13 hurries from his end position.

Pierce’s Humberto Esqueda earned a spot on the 2024 All-Northern Section second team defense.
