COLUSA, CA (MPG) – For the forty-third year, Colusa hosted its annual Georgia Raczniak varsity boys’ basketball tournament, which included the RedHawks along with county rivals Pierce and Williams in addition to teams from Clear Lake, Corning, Gridley, Sutter and Willows.

Unfortunately for the local teams it was an inauspicious beginning as all three fell in the opening round.
Colusa dropped its first game 51-71 to Clear Lake, overcoming a slow start to make it a competitive contest before seeing the Cardinals heat up from distance in the final period to pull away.
Cade Smith finished with a team-high 17 points, although foul trouble limited his effectiveness in the second half, Kaleb Castanon added 10 points, and hard-working Jace MacKaben chipped in with nine points.
Pierce, which drew Sutter in the first round, kept it close in the first half, although a rough shooting night and turnovers saw them go down 36-61 to the Huskies.

Gavin Guynn paced the Bears with 11 points, while Devin Garcia added eight to the total.
Williams, the other local team in the tournament, also struggled with turnovers and with their shots, which despite keeping it close in the first half, ultimately resulted in a 33-60 loss to Gridley.
Emmanuel Juarez paced the ‘Jackets with 12 points with Diego Ambriz adding nine before fouling out to end his evening.

Tournament play continued through the Dec. 21, although results were not available prior to the Pioneer Review print deadline, which was moved up due to the Christmas holiday.
