WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – Wrestlers from Biggs, East Nicolaus, Gridley, Live Oak, Pierce and Winters joined Williams for a match night on Dec. 11 with the two local squads performing well.
It was a good outing for the host Yellowjackets, who according to Coach Nik Willis had “their hands raised 11 times in 28 matches.”
Leading the way for the ‘Jackets was sophomore Ricardo Mendina, wrestling at 144 pounds, who pinned all three of his opponents in the first round, while junior Angel Medina, at 285 pounds, went 2-0 including an overtime win over an opponent from East Nic in which he scored a takedown and then a pin to end the match.

However, it was an even better night for the Bears, with Coach Devin Harris reporting that his squad won 24 of their 33 matches.

Harris singled out three of his grapplers for having standout performances, including senior Alejandro Santana, a first year wrestler, along with junior Robert Nesbit, also in his inaugural season, and returner Chase Friel.

Santana won both of his matches, Nesbitt beat two opponents with first round pins and another with a second round technical fall, while Friel pinned all three of his opponents in the second round.

Both teams were in Arbuckle on Dec. 18 for a match night hosted by Pierce.
