COLUSA, CA (MPG) – The Colusa City Council has authorized additional improvements to be made at the Sacramento State Recreational Area with remaining funds from the Locally Operated State Park Program of Proposition 68, the California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access for All Act of 2018.
Colusa was among seven entities awarded $4.6 million in 2022 to enhance state-owned outdoor recreation facilities, such as picnic areas and campgrounds.
Colusa received $642,950 to rehabilitate the septic system, dump stations, and automatic pay machine, renovate the turf, replace the damaged boarding float, and renovate the picnic and campground features at the state park.
The city contracted with Dos Rios, Inc., in March, after the local company was the only contractor to bid on the project. In the first rehabilitation, which totaled about $350,000, Dos Rios also replaced the group barbecue pit and 2,000 feet of split rail fencing.
Because Dos Rios was the only bidder, the City Council on Nov. 19 approved a change order on their consent calendar to allow the company to make added improvements, including the installation of a 130-foot lighted flagpole. The company will also re-epoxy and repaint the restrooms and showers, install new toilet seats, and remove the turn style. Officials said the turn style would be moved to the Colusa County Fairgrounds.
“The Grantor (State Parks) and I feel that a change order is in the best interest of the project and ensures we stay under budget,” Cain noted in a staff report.
Added improvements include new State Park signage, moving the Boat Launch sign, and landscaping the entrance.
The California Department of State Parks has agreements with public, nonprofit, and private entities to run or co-manage 96 state park units that leverage resources and community connections to enhance visitor services and protect and preserve the public’s access to parks and campgrounds.
