COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Change can be good but some things are best when they stay the same. Christmas Tyme in Colusa will be a mixture of both.
Colusa’s biggest downtown event will get underway on Friday at its new location on Main Street. The organizing committee from the Lion’s Club, Rotary Club, and City of Colusa made the change after managing the event for many years on the state-owned highway but decided this year to permanently move the event from Market Street to the city’s Historic Riverfront District, located just one block north.
“It’s going to be very similar, event-wise,” said Antonio Ortiz, one of many volunteers who work together to organize the free holiday gathering for young and old, singles and families.
Vendors will be set up to sell their wares along Main Street, but Christmas Tyme will have some special new features, including a ceremonial lighting of the city’s iconic water towers, via countdown with Miss Colusa County Allie Wills.
There will also be an opportunity to see the historic Tin House, a 19th-century boarding house, lit up for the holidays, where Santa’s Village will be set up on the lawn.
Hoblit Ford will host this year’s Kids’ Zone and will clear the parking lot for bounce houses and other fun activities.
Ortiz said not only will the popular DJ return to Christmas Tyme in Colusa, but a Mariachi Band will also perform during the event on 5th Street.
Christmas Tyme in Colusa, a spin-off of the original Old Tyme Christmas, will get underway at 6 PM on Dec. 6 with the troops from Stardust Dance Studio getting people into the holiday spirit with their festive dance moves. Other amenities for the event include horse and carriage rides – along with a few other surprises that are in store.
One of the features of Old Tyme Christmas that will not change is the Ukulele Club performance and community sing-along at the Colusa County Arts Council, located at the historic IOOF Building, 151 5th St. at 7 PM.

“Everyone had a lot of fun there last year,” Ortiz said.
Christmas Tyme in Colusa runs from 6-9 pm. Nonfood vendors and nonprofits can still register through Nov. 29 at jotform.com/242916369571062 or by contacting any Colusa County Chamber of Commerce member.
There is no charge for nonprofit and community organizations.
