Maxwell Cross County Keeping Pace

MAXWELL, CA (MPG) – Running on their home course, the eight-person Panther squad not only kept pace, but more accurately set it in two races at the second Mid-Valley League meet on Oct. 23.

The Panthers’ Evan Mathis set a personal record as he ran to a second place finish in the varsity boy’s race in Maxwell on Oct. 23.

In the varsity girls division, Maxwell’s lone entrant, Jadyn Karlonas (24:56.34), ran away from the field comprised of runners from Durham, Inspire Academy and Hamilton City to finish first and set a personal record in the process.

 

Following up in the varsity boy’s race, the Panthers’ Evan Mathis (19:18.38) came on strong down the stretch on the three-mile course to take second place in a personal best time.

 

Mathis’s teammate Colt Fry (24:23.47) turned in a season’s best effort to cross the line in thirteenth place.

 

On the 2.2 mile JV course, Maxwell took the top three spots led by race winner Vincent Orozco (13:35.15), who finished ahead of Julio Chavez (14:28.50) in second place and Wyatt Roach (14:43.28) in third.

Maxwell’s Jadyn Karlonas won the MVL varsity girl’s race in a personal best time.

Other Panther harriers in the race included Omar Rosales (16:10.15) who was fifth and Paul Ortiz (20:13.72) in eighth.

 

MVL runners were at Butte College on Oct. 30 for the third league meet.
