Princeton 3 – Elk Creek 0 (10/21)

The Eagles closed out the regular season with a 25-12, 25-13, 25-20 victory over the winless Elks.

Princeton’s Gabriella Trujillo finished with five digs as the Eagles downed Elk Creek in their final regular season match on Oct. 21.

Mackinzie Wills led the offense with seven kills and seven aces, while Guadalupe Espinoza handed out 14 assists and served five additional aces.

 

Although it wasn’t a particularly busy night for the defense, Gabriella Trujillo made a team-high five digs.

As the co-champion of the Pioneer League, Princeton (17-10, 11-1) received the No. 1 seed in the Northern Section Division VII playoffs and as a result earned a first round bye.

 

It will return to action on Nov. 5 in a match against the winner of No. 4 Westwood and No. 5 Herlong.

 

 

Colusa 3 – Durham 1  (10/22)

Colusa 3 – Paradise 0  (10/24)

Colusa brought an end to its three-game skid with two Sacramento Valley League wins last week.

Colusa’s Abril Guzman (15) and Ava Garcia (11) served a combined 14 aces in the RedHawks’ win over Durham last Tuesday night.

Setters Addison Lay and Cindel Oliver distributed 17 and 10 assists respectively to facilitate a balanced attack that saw seven different RedHawks notch at least one kill in the victory over Durham.

 

Lay also finished with a team-high eight kills, Peyton Miller added seven and McKenna Azbill pitched in with six.

 

The RedHawks were strong at the service line as well, with Abril Guzman accounting for eight of the team’s 23 aces, while Ava Garcia ended the match with six.

 

In the back row, Guzman made 16 digs with Cece Mitchum and Olivia Huskey subsequently contributing eight and seven.

RedHawk setter Addison Lay handed out 17 and 16 assists in matches against Durham and Paradise last week.

On the road in Paradise for its final regular season match, Colusa downed the Bobcats 25-12, 25-10, 25-23.

 

Lay had 16 assists and 11 kills, Oliver dished out 12 assists and Mitchum landed seven kills.

Guzman made 12 digs and served five aces, while recent JV call-up Marlie Berry made nine digs and also had five aces.

 

Finishing third in the SVL, the RedHawks (22-11, 8-4) are the No. 2 seed in the Northern Section Division IV playoffs and after receiving a first round bye, will play the winner between No. 3 U-Prep and No. 6 Williams in the semi-final round at home on Nov. 5.
