COLUSA, CA (MPG) – It was more than just the weather that was cooking last week, so was the Colusa tennis team as it downed Anderson 8-1 and Oroville 6-3 to remain unbeaten in its five preseason contests.
Welcoming Anderson to town on Sept. 3, the RedHawks won five of the six singles matches starting with No. 2 Savanna Rochette, who after winning the opening set 7-5, saw her opponent withdraw in the second.

No. 3 Vianey Farias, in her first appearance this season, wasted little time in claiming a 6-0, 6-2 win, while the rest of the ladder including No. 4 Ashley Perez (6-0, 6-2), No. 5 Janell Garcia (6-0, 6-0) and No. 6 Miranda Perez (6-2, 6-1) made quick work of the Cubs’ singles as well.
Colusa then swept the three doubles matches with the duo of Olivia Nair and Rochette edging their competition 8-8 (10-6), while Farias and Garcia won by forfeit, and the pair of Perez and Perez prevailed 8-2.
Traveling to Oroville on Sept. 5, Farias (6-2, 6-2), Ashley Perez (6-0, 6-0), Garcia (6-2, 6-0) and Miranda Perez (6-2, 6-0) each posted straight set wins in singles.
On the doubles court, Farias and Garcia won out 8-1, with Perez and Perez posting a 8-2 victory.
Sacramento Valley League play began in Durham on Tuesday for the RedHawks, who then returned home to host Gridley in a non-conference match the following day.
